Report from Vic Petrie
There were 9 Juniors and 4 coaches as well as some parents who attended the event at Gleneagles. The weather was blustery with occasional showers but we did have some sunny periods. The original party was 12 strong but 3 Juniors did not appear on the day. 12 is a good number to have on such an event.
However, those who did had a very enjoyable time. We are gradually making the transition from the Muckhart way to the Clubgolf system of grading our juniors. If we get the opportunity to repeat the Gleneagles experience, we would hope to use it as an incentive and reward to those who are making progress during our coaching activities. Most of those picked will be from Stage 2 with a small number being the better ones from Stage 1.
Muckhart Golf Club have been involved with Clubgolf for several years but it is only this year that we have decided to transition to the formal Clubgolf Scottish Golf player highway. We have 102 members of our Junior section. not all are devoted to the game and we accommodate those who want to play with their friends etc. However, we have 14 coaches and helpers who do a tremendous job in the coaching/support roles.
I would like, on behalf of Muckhart Golf Club, to express our gratitude to Gleneagles Hotel for allowing us to enjoy their facilities and I can assure everybody that the kids do enjoy the experience immensely.
To outline plans for the year ahead junior members and parents were invited to a meeting on 25th March in the clubhouse where the new Clubgolf coaching model was explained and general plans for the year outlined, as well as any questions answered. Also present at the meeting was regional Clubgolf Co ordinator Mandy Martin.

NEW PORTACABIN FOR MUCKHART GOLF CLUB JUNIOR SECTION
If you have braved the winter weather and been up at the clubhouse recently you may have noticd that the derelict old portacabin at the bottom of the car park has been replaced by a shiny new one.
Muckhart Golf Club have purchased a new portacabin as a meeting place for their young golfers and the storage of junior golf equipment thanks to grants of £3,829 received from Clackmannanshire and Stirling Environment Trust and £4,146 from Awards for All Scotland.
In addition a lot of work was done 'in house' in terms of site peparation, and internal fitting out so it was a real 'team effort' to realise this project.
The official opening of the new portacabin was carried out by Ross White, Muckhart Junior Golf Champion and Junior Captain ably assisted by Ian Hill, Finlay Hamilton, Jack Naitby, Brenna Phillips and Craig Robinson. The golden key was then handed over to the Club Captain, Alan Bruce.
Ross who is 16 said “Golf is a great game and I have made lots of friends through it. I have had a lot of support from the club so who knows where it can take you.”
Muckhart Golf Club who have 120 juniors and 19 golf coaches are actively involved in the national golf initiative “Clubgolf” and can offer golf tuition from beginners to county level on their 27 hole golf course throughout the summer months. There is a membership fee but all golf tuition and equipment is free. As well as free lessons there is a golf academy and flag competitions providing a great opportunity for young people wishing to take up game.
The new portacabin as well as providing a meeting place for juniors will be used for quiz competitons and putting practice during bad weather and will be especially useful for our Primary After School Club who enjoy taking part in Clubgolf coaching free of charge from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Thursdays during the summer.
